This page is simply an orientation to the layout of the inner rings of the Pentagon. The space between E and D
rings has a second story roof (there are only three stories of windows). This is also true of the space between D and C rings.
The space between C and B rings goes down to ground level and is known as the A-E drive. I can only point out what I think is unusual
since I do not know the obstructions/openings inside the building and how an explosion would travel through it.
The area labeled "Wall Blowout" is where floors 3, 4, and 5 between E and D rings blew out.
On the front of the building the force of the blast traveled north (right in this photo) on floors one and two
only. The route of travel for the blast to wind through corridors and blow out these 3 walls while leaving
the windows on the backside of E Ring intact seems improbable. See the sidebar image for a close up.
The red line represents the alleged trajectory of the aircraft. The distance from the impact zone to the exit hole
is 310 feet. This is after the aircraft impacted the newly renovated exterior wall of E Ring hard enough to disintegrate the wings, engines
and vertical stabilizer. The other interior walls were of normal construction (up to 6' of them). The "E" ring facade windows
were blast-resistant and the walls were Kevlar mesh with steel tube reinforcement. See the sidebar image entitled "Cross-Section"
for a sense of what an aircraft would have to penetrate to enter the A-E drive.
The area labeled "Single Door Blowout" is another anomaly. This is so far off the trajectory
of the aircraft in the opposite direction that it is hard to imagine how an explosion within the natural laws of
physics could have caused this. Even tough
it is cropped out of this photo there is no such damage to the north (or right) of the exit hole in the expected
deflection path of the an aircraft.
In the area labeled "Roll-up Door Blowout" there has been a significant blast and fire event on floor two.
Look where the smoke comes out of the windows there. When you see the close-up, the heavy window frames have also been
blown out with a huge force. Now look down over the exit hole and you don't see any second floor burning. My question is that
with the roll-up door right in the middle of any path of travel for an explosion, how come it is so intense there and nothing
in between or around it shows similar blast/fire damage? We also know that the aircraft is said to have stayed below the second
floor slab except for the small area where it was lifted up clear back in "D" Ring.
On the right is a simple floor plan to give some idea of how the corridors inside the Pentagon
are laid out. There is also an analysis of the damage to the opposing wall on B Ring from the blasts.
The exit hole will be studied on its own page next.
